dressbarn Introduces Exclusive “Heart Bracelet” Encouraging Customers to “Have a Heart, Wear a Heart” Donating Proceeds to Charity
dressbarn, a leading retailer and authority on women’s fashion, began its annual participation as a National Team in the American Cancer Society’s 2007 awareness building and fundraising effort, Relay For Life®. Relay For Life is an overnight event created to unite communities all over the world, celebrate survivorship and raise awareness and funds for cancer research and programs of the American Cancer Society. Beyond sales Associate and community involvement in the events, dressbarn is also introducing its exclusive “Heart Bracelet” that will be sold in all stores for $5.00 from May 1st through August 31st, or while supplies last. dressbarn wants customers to “have a heart, wear a heart” and will donate the entire net profit of $2.50 to the American Cancer Society.
“Since 2002 we’ve worked closely with the American Cancer Society and continue to raise the bar for participation and contributions every year,” said dressbarn president and CEO David R. Jaffe. “Through sales of our ‘Heart Bracelet’ and the growing number of dressbarn teams participating in this year’s events, we expect to exceed last year’s turnout in both community member support and dollars donated to the American Cancer Society.”
In 2007, there will be more than 4,800 relay events held across the country in addition to events in more than 23 countries around the world, where teams will gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps in the fight against cancer. Last year, 145 dressbarn teams consisting of customers, executives and store associates participated in Relay For Life events, raising over $325,000 through team fundraising and in-store promotion.
The dressbarn corporation, dressbarn, inc., has pledged to match funds up to $200,000 raised by dressbarn and its other retail subsidiary, maurices. To date, dressbarn, inc. has donated $3 million to the American Cancer Society.
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Their goals are simply stated for such an important cause: to prevent cancer, save lives and diminish suffering from cancer. Relay For Life brings the American Cancer Society one step closer to attaining their goals through a 24-hour event to raise money for medical research and programs.
