Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) (NASDAQ: CMCSK) , the nation's leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, announced it has completed the most successful United Way campaign in the company's history, with employee participation in 2006 increasing nearly 80 percent over 2005.
One hundred and twenty local United Way organizations received nearly $2.9 million in contributions from Comcast employees, and will receive an additional $1.3 million in grants from the Comcast Foundation in recognition of the generosity of Comcasters across America. In addition to employee and Foundation support, Comcast provided $6.5 million in airtime during 2006 for public service announcements (PSAs) that bring increased awareness and visibility to the United Way mission and salute Comcast employees for their generosity. Comcast is continuing its PSA commitment in 2007.
Hundreds of United Way agencies across the country will use the Comcast contributions to address local needs including helping children and youth succeed, improving access to health care, promoting financial self-sufficiency, and strengthening families.
"By supporting United Way, Comcast employees are helping empower the communities in which they live and work," said David L. Cohen, Executive Vice President for Comcast and Co-Chairman of The Comcast Foundation. "We're very proud of this year's campaign results and look forward to achieving positive results for many years to come through our continued partnership with United Way."
"Thanks to the increasing generosity of Comcast and its employees, United Way can work in communities to solve the most critical problems they face," said Brian Gallagher, United Way of America President and CEO. "Together, United Way and Comcast are improving lives, building stronger communities and ensuring a brighter future."
