Hood to donate 5 cents from each container of Freedom Trail Mix Ice Cream sold to The Freedom Trail Foundation

If 18th-century Colonial figures Hannah Howard and Elizabeth Wells Adams were alive today, what would their dessert of choice be? Bet they'd be more than happy to taste Hood's new "revolutionary" Freedom Trail Mix Ice Cream, a blend of chocolate-covered peanuts, sunflower seeds, and pretzels in honey nut ice cream swirled with caramel!

Hood is introducing the new flavor to Boston residents today at a special event at Faneuil Hall in downtown Boston. Julie Burns, director of arts, tourism and special events for the City of Boston, along with actors costumed as 18th-century Colonial figures Hannah Howard, Elizabeth Wells Adams, Barzillai Lew and Judith Sergeant Murray, will distribute the ice cream samples.

"We're so pleased to bring Freedom Trail Mix Ice Cream to New England residents," says Lynne Bohan, vice president of public relations and government affairs for Hood. "This unique flavor reminds us of the historical treasure we have right here in Boston with the Freedom Trail."

With Freedom Trail Mix Ice Cream, Hood is supporting The Freedom Trail Foundation's efforts to maintain the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile historic walking trail, and keep revolutionary history alive for visitors and natives to the city. Five cents from the sale of each Freedom Trail Mix Ice Cream container sold will go to The Freedom Trail Foundation's preservation fund for a limited amount of time.

"We are thrilled to work with Hood to introduce the delicious new ice cream, Freedom Trail Mix, to our community," says president of The Freedom Trail Foundation. "Hood's generous donation to The Freedom Trail Foundation will allow us to continue preserving our city's famous walking tour and other educational programs that impact more than 3 million people a year."

Freedom Trail Mix Ice Cream was chosen as the 2006 grand prize winner of Hood's "Taste of New England" Flavor Naming Contest, which attracted more than 1,000 entries. The contest celebrated the launch of 18 flavors of Hood's New England Creamery Ice Cream, including Maine Blueberry, Boston Crème Pie, Cape Cod Fudge and Vermont Maple Nut.

The 56-ounce containers of Freedom Trail Mix Ice Cream, illustrated with New England-inspired art, will be available at supermarkets this summer for $4.99 - $5.99 (suggested retail).
