DailyCandy Poll Results Prove That Comfort Takes a Backseat to Style

A recent DailyCandy.com poll asked subscribers: "Wearing which type of shoes makes you the happiest?" Choosing among heels, flats, sneakers, sandals and boots, 35 percent of the 10,991 respondents revealed that wearing heels makes them the happiest. Comfortable options like sneakers, flats and sandals that were assumed to be most happiness-inducing were left in the dust, perhaps proving once and for all that beauty really is pain.

So what does this say about the DailyCandy audience -- comprising mostly stylish, influential women ages 21-35 who love to shop?

"DailyCandy subscribers crave the very latest fashion, especially when it comes to footwear, but they're also quite practical, so we were very curious to find out what type of shoe made them happiest," says Dannielle Romano, editor-at-large for DailyCandy.com. "We were surprised to find that heels scored such high results because they are typically the least comfortable option, and with summer coming, we expected casualness to reign. This proves once and for all that there's no denying the sexy confidence of a lady in heels."

Sandals, at a distant second, made 25% of feet happiest, followed by flats at 20% and boots and sneakers tied at 10% each.
