MOM 2.0: Today's Moms are Seeking Online Videos to Help Navigate Through Motherhood
New Research Find Moms online up to 5 hours a day and 80% viewing How To videos
Reaching beyond social networking, moms are embracing new technologies on the internet and integrating web 2.0 trends into their daily lives. In a recent study of moms nationwide, 80% of mothers are watching videos online, with 43% preferring videos that provide expert advice and solutions suggesting that moms want to be able to find what they want when they want it. In response to moms' increasing preference for 2.0 applications, NewBaby.com, http://www.newbaby.com/, has launched the first online video resource designed specifically for new and expectant moms. In addition to housing the largest library of highly relevant videos in NewbabyTV, the content-rich site also offers moms information via podcasts, expert blogs, RSS feeds as well as opportunities to connect with other new and veteran moms through social networks.
Newbaby.com is the creation of two Internet veterans, Bob Sullivan, founder of Mortgage.com and Maria Bailey, Founder of BlueSuitMom.com and Host of Mom Talk Radio, http://www.momtalkradio.com/. Ironically, the idea for Newbaby.com was born the same night that Sullivan's son came into the world and the new dad could not find the information he needed online."
A new mom has a lot less time than she did pre-baby, so naturally she wants to be able to retrieve relevant information quickly and at her convenience," says Bob Sullivan, father of three. "So when she has a fussy baby in her arms at midnight, she doesn't want to wait until the next morning at 9:00 to learn about ways to tame colic."
Navigating through the unknowns of motherhood is no easy feat, however, today's new moms are taking advantage of the platforms available on the web to build a network of support and seek solutions. Additional findings of the survey conducted by BSM Media reveal that 76% of moms are online 10 or more times a week. When asked about online video, 53% said they watched an online video once a week and 40% said online video was the new technology that interested them most. The NewBaby team has worked with experts from around the world to develop original content in the form of easy to search video clips and blogs that answer moms' most pressing concerns and frequently asked questions.
"The way we are consuming information is changing rapidly and shifting toward a very on-demand, niche driven media. With this in mind, we asked moms how they wanted their content online and then built the social network that delivers just that. Newbaby.com is the online destination where moms can celebrate the changes that occur with children and obtain information in the format they prefer whether it's audio, video or mom to mom blogs, groups and forums," explains Sullivan.
